ACCESS FINAL EXPORT DEADLINE REMINDER
The ACCESS Online Enrollment System will be taken offline in approximately 2 weeks! Unfortunately, National Council doesn’t have the ability to create county-specific reports. This means that each local Extension Unit is responsible for downloading any data they wish to keep from ACCESS. Council has developed a resource to assist in the process: Final ACCESS Export FAQ for County Users. I have also created a version: Kansas Tips for Final ACCESS Export which may be more helpful for staff members who may be unfamiliar with ACCESS. Please remember, if you wish to download any ACCESS enrollment data for historical record keeping, it must be done before March 31, 2015. After this date, ACCESS will be permanently unavailable. Please let me know if you have any questions, I'm happy to help! Williams

4-H CLOVERBUDS AND EXTENSION POLICIES - PREPARTION FOR SPRING SHOWS
When 4-H and/or Extension plans, organizes and facilitates a livestock, small animal, horse or pre or post-fair activity please double check that 4-H Policies are being followed. An area of concern is 4-H Cloverbuds. The program was designed for 5-and 6-year-olds. Cloverbuds is activity-focused, rather than project–focused. Furthermore, 4-H Cloverbuds members may not participate in any competitive 4-H events. 4-H Cloverbuds members many showcase their exhibits at fairs and public events. 4-H Cloverbuds may not have 4-H livestock projects that require long-term, ongoing care or weigh-ins, nor can the member participate as a competitive 4-H exhibitor within livestock divisions.
For more information referring to 4-H Cloverbuds, please check the Kansas Department of 4-H Youth Development Policy Guide, section D3 4-H Cloverbuds, page 8 or checking the Cloverbuds page.

CAMPFERENCE REGISTRATION
4-H Campference is for youth ages 12- 14 (before January 1, 2015), and will be held May 31-June 3, 2015 at Rock Springs 4-H Center. Participants will experience the feel of a conference, while enjoying the 'camp' activities Rock Springs 4-H Center has to offer. This is a great transitional opportunity, as these tweens go from being a camper to attending educational conferences. 4-H Campference will feature workshops about opportunities in the 4-H program and how to better interact with others. Participants will meet other youth from around the state of Kansas.
Register early as the space will fill on a first come basis, and Campference was full in 2014! Register online by May 1 and payment and participation forms must be in the local Extension Offices on May 1. Registration and detailed information is on the State 4-H Website. 2015 KANSAS 4-H INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE PROGRAMS INFORMATION
For questions about Kansas 4-H International Exchange Programs, please contact Mary Kay Munson by email or at 785-238-3632.
-
Norwegian States’ 4-H Inbound Exchange - Kansas’ partner for 4-H age exchanges States’ 4-H International Exchange Program expects thirty Norwegian 4-H teens and their chaperones for a one-month exchange in the U.S. this summer. Twenty-one Kansas 4-H families responded by completing their applications by March 1, the States’ 4-H deadline. Of those, matches have been made with ten Kansas families. The majority of the Norwegians are 17 and 18. They will be in Kansas June 24-July 19. Kansas has the largest group to be placed in the U.S. At the time of this writing, we are working with screening these families for hosting, which requires two references, a criminal background check of all family members over 18 in the home, and an In-home Interview. We appreciate the assistance from local Extension agents for the interviews.
We are also working with the other applicants to see if they will accept exchangees from Japan or IFYE’s. If they chose to host a Japanese, they are being referred to Rose Scott, the Coordinator for the Summer Inbound Japanese Exchange. She will be in communication with them. If they choose and are matched to host an IFYE/Kansas International 4-H Youth Exchange, Mary Kay Munson will attempt to find an incoming exchangee they can host. We are excited to have many new families representing counties throughout the state showing interest in 4-H International Exchanges.

Inbound IFYE’s to Kansas for 2015 - Kansas 4-H is still getting details on inbound IFYE’s (International 4-H Youth Exchangee) coming to Kansas this summer. Two to four host families are needed for each IFYE. Length of stay with a family will be 2-3 weeks. Below is a summary of the information we have at this time on incoming IFYE’s.

Academic Year Japan and Korea Exchange Program - The Mike and Donna Taphorm family in Clay County has been approved to host a female Japanese high school student during the 2015-16 school year. A second family is in the process of applying to host a male Japanese student. As of this writing, one Japanese boy and several Japanese and Korean girls remain in the national pool for academic year placements next year. Any family interested in hosting should contact Mary Kay Munson immediately as the pool is getting smaller daily.

STANDARD OF EXCELLENCE DELEGATES – NATIONAL 4-H CONGRESS
Standard of Excellence Delegates represent all of the recipients of the Kansas 4-H Key Award during the previous 4-H year.
Seven Congress Standard of Excellence Delegates are randomly drawn from names sent to the State 4-H Office. Each Extension Unit made up of only one county may submit one name. Extension Units (districts) made up of more than one county may send as many names equal to the number of counties that comprise the district. (Note: The names may come from anywhere in the District). Extension Units please select your name(s) in the following manner:
STEP #1. Create a pool of names consisting of ALL 4-H Key Award winners in 2014 who meet the following criteria -
-
Were presented the Kansas 4-H Key Award in 2014
-
Have never attended National 4-H Congress before
-
Are enrolled in Kansas 4-H
-
Have a genuine desire to attend National 4-H Congress
-
Are available to attend 2015 National 4-H Congress in its entirety from Nov 27- Dec 1, 2015
-
Are at least 16 years old but not yet 19 years old before January 1, 2015
-
Willing to remain committed to attending 2015 National 4-H Congress once they accept the trip
-
Agree to the follow the prescribed code of conduct, realizing failure to do so may result in the loss of privileges during the event and/or in the future
STEP #2. Randomly draw the name(s) from your eligible pool, complete the form, and make sure that it arrives at the State 4-H Office by close of business (5 PM), May 1, 2015.
Upon receipt of the nominees from local Extension Units, all names will be placed in a pool, randomly drawn and notified immediately as the state Standard of Excellence Delegates for 2015 National 4-H Congress. Keatley
2015 CENTENNIAL DELEGATES – NATIONAL 4-H CONGRESS
The Kansas 4-H Centennial Delegates were added in 2002 when national 4-H celebrated 4-H’s centennial year. Kansas 4-H has permitted each Extension Unit to send one at-large delegate to National 4-H Congress. These at-large positions are called Centennial Delegates. Cost for the Centennial delegate will be the full amount of approximately $1,150.00 (no registration grant is offered). The selection criteria and process for the 4-H Centennial Delegate is entirely up to the Extension Unit. To be eligible, delegates MUST:
-
Have never before attended National 4-H Congress
-
Be enrolled in Kansas 4-H
-
Have a genuine desire to attend National 4-H Congress
-
Be available to attend 2015 National 4-H Congress in its entirety from Nov 27 - Dec 1, 2015
-
Be at least 14 years old but not yet 19 years old before January 1, 2015
-
Remain committed to attending 2015 National 4-H Congress once they accept the trip
-
Agree to the follow the prescribed code of conduct, realizing failure to do so may result in the loss of privileges during the event and/or in the future
Participating Extension Units will need to notify the State 4-H Office on or before May 15, 2015, along with providing the non-refundable $100.00 deposit and nomination form for the delegate. To help with planning, remember that the Standard of Excellence representatives to Congress will be named immediately following the May 1 deadline and if their name is not drawn, can be re-nominated as a Centennial delegate. 4-H SHOOTING SPORTS HUNTING SKILLS DEFINED
Many have asked what is the 4-H Shooting Sports' Hunting Skills discipline? Therefore to increase everyone's knowledge, let's explore the project. The main objectives of the Hunting Skills discipline include:
-
Learning of Hunting's history, ethics and laws
-
Gaining an appreciation of wildlife and the outdoors
-
Exploring hunting careers, shooting sports and wildlife management
-
Expanding knowledge of differing types of hunting even with the camera
The 4-H Hunting Skills discipline offers an exciting way to present knowledge and love of nature together. The lessons pair up with activities that allow youth and adults to learn in a fun environment. If the local Extension Unit is interested in learning more ... encourage a volunteer to participate in the upcoming 4-H Shooting Sports Training. Van Horn
