A MESSAGE FROM THE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, 4-H YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
One of our 4-H strategic priorities is “reaching new audiences” which involves thinking about how we reach out to youth and their families in new ways. We want as many youth as possible to have a positive 4-H experience and that requires some change on our part. As part of our efforts to grow 4-H, we are exploring the 4-H SPIN (SPecial INterest) Club model. The purpose of 4-H SPIN Clubs is to help youth gain mastery of a specific topic or skill through 4-H. Their 4-H SPIN Club experience provides an easy entry into the 4-H program and introduces them to other 4-H activities and programs.
There are 5 program expansion pilot sites piloting the 4-H SPIN Club model but we have received so much interest we wanted to provide an opportunity for you to learn about 4-H SPIN Clubs, too. Please join us for a 1 hour webinar on 4-H SPIN Clubs on February 19, at 1:30 p.m. Details can be found in the Tip Sheet article below, "“Put some SPIN in your 4-H Program,” Feb. 19, 1:30 p.m." Dr. Madonna Weese, Extension Specialist, University of Illinois, will describe the SPIN Club model and discuss results that they have had in the IL 4-H program.
See you there.

ACCESS TIP: PROPER SET-UP OF CLUBS & GROUPS
Don’t let your Extension’s 4-H Enrollment numbers be under-reported because of small data entry errors in ACCESS. *If members take part in or receive a genuine experience through 4-H programming, they should be counting toward your ES-237.* In order for members to report accurately, Clubs and Groups must be set up properly.
Club When a “Club” is created to house Group Enrollments, Camping Groups, Special Interest Groups, School Enrichment Programs, etc., or an actual Organized 4-H Club, the "Club" must meet the following criteria in order to count on the ES-237: 1. Be marked ACTIVE, 2. “Charter Pending OR “Charter Collected” checked, 3. Have an “ES-237 eligible” Delivery Mode.
Group Simply creating a Group does not mean that those group members participated in a 4-H experience. In order for members in a Group to count in your participation numbers, a project or activity must exist and count toward the ES-237. This is accomplished by:
1. The participation's "Count toward ES-237?" box is checked, 2. “Charter Pending" is checked, 3. Have an “ES-237 eligible” Delivery Mode.
*No Group should have the delivery mode of Organized
4-H Community Club. (if they are in an Organized 4-H Community Club, you should
have their name and basic contact information).*
Delivery Modes Delivery Modes are member participation categories such as: Organized 4-H Club, Special Interest/Short Term Program, Overnight Camping Program, etc. There are 17 selections to choose from: The first 11 delivery mode options count on the ES-237 report, the remaining six do not (and are titled as such). Delivery Mode Definitions/ES-237 Category Descriptions can be found on the ACCESS Resource Page (after logging in) on the 4-H website at: http://www.kansas4-h.org/p.aspx?tabid=307.
ACCESS helps us organize and report, but we only benefit if we use the system correctly. Don't view the ES-237 as being a "once a year" report; every time you create and input, ACCESS is automatically populating the ES-237 report for you! That being said, if you ensure proper data entry all through the year, your "official" ES-237 Report in November should reflect accurate 4-H enrollment. Williams
