How the Beyond Ready philanthropic initiative advances the Kansas 4-H mission

Submitted by Sarah E. Maass & Mindy Weixelman

Last month you heard from me about the “Beyond Ready” movement as it relates to the programming side of Kansas 4-H. I’ve asked Mindy Weixelman, Kansas 4-H Foundation President and CEO, to discuss the Beyond Ready movement as it relates to the philanthropic side of Kansas 4-H.

Please find below Mindy's article on the role of philanthropy in the "Beyond Ready" movement.

As a follow-up to Dr. Sarah Maass’ recent article in the October 4-H Tip Sheet regarding the exciting "Beyond Ready" initiative, I want to share the role philanthropy plays in advancing positive youth development.

While attending parts of the annual conference, it was easy to see how agents are deeply invested in the growth, development and delivery of Kansas 4-H. The Beyond Ready philanthropic initiative introduces a bold vision for the future that provides an increased opportunity for your involvement in statewide fundraising efforts.

As we look ahead to 2025, it's a year of celebration and reflection for Kansas 4-H. We’ll be commemorating two major milestones that highlight the rich history and enduring impact of our programs: the 120th anniversary of Kansas 4-H and the 80th anniversary of Rock Springs Ranch as the state 4-H center. These significant achievements not only honor the dedication and hard work of those who have come before us but also inspire us to continue advancing the mission of 4-H in Kansas. Your support in making the "Beyond Ready" initiative a success will ensure that we can build upon these legacies, creating new opportunities for generations to come.

The Beyond Ready initiative is a tremendous opportunity to expand our reach and make an even bigger impact in the lives of young people across the state. However, as with any initiative, the funding necessary to build out the programs, create new resources, and ensure sustainability won't come from just one source.

Through identifying potential donors, building relationships with local businesses, and hosting Kansas 4-H events in your community, your efforts help advance 4-H programming that strengthens youth, families, and communities. These contributions support the growth of initiatives like Beyond Ready, which empowers young people and enriches the local community.

Your role in advancing philanthropy:

  • As an ambassador of Kansas 4-H, you advance the mission each time you share 4-H pride points in your community
  • Refer individuals, businesses and foundations to the Kansas 4-H Foundation who have an interest in making charitable gifts.
  • Consider making a personal gift to the Kansas 4-H Foundation and invite others to join you.
  • Encourage 4-H camp enrollment at Rock Springs Ranch (Registration opened Nov. 15!)
  • Save the date for the Rock Springs Ranch Workday to celebrate 80 years (It’s April 12, 2025!)
