Raised Hands for 4-H…. Now what?
First off, thank you all so much for the momentum you helped create over the past month for the Raise Your Hand for 4-H social media campaign. We are so excited to announce that Kansas 4-H placed 3rd in this national contest and won $5,000 for our 4-H youth! We are so proud to be part of a community that fights for Kansas 4-H.
I am sure you are wondering, what’s next? We had our 4-H family and friends cast their vote for 4-H, supply their contact information, and now we are left with working through how to sort those who would love to be involved in 4-H with those who simply supported us.
Working with the Kansas 4-H Foundation, our plan is to simply send an email to the contacts we received from National 4-H asking how they would like to be involved. The email will simply ask a series of yes/no questions to which they can quickly respond. Examples of questions: do you want to connect with your local 4-H programs? Are you interested in becoming a 4-H judge? Are you interested in volunteering? Do you want to learn more about 4-H in your community?
We will pass the contact information of those that want to become involved in local 4-H programs to county agents by August 1. Our 4-H marketing work group also suggested that we provide sample messaging for you to use when reaching out to these new contacts. We will be working with Shane Potter to draft some of these messages and will send these resources along with the names.
While it may mean a little work on your end to engage these new contacts, we are excited to pass along a list of folks who have already indicated their passion and interest in local 4-H programs. It is our goal to make this as easy for you as possible, but ultimately, contact from you at the local level is much more effective than contact from the state 4-H office.
Thank you again so much for all of your help! The Raise Your Hand campaign has been a great example of how successful we can be when we all work together.
