GeoCAT Career Ambassador Training Workshop
Are you a teacher or mentor of students in STEM? Would you like to incorporate geoscience into your curricula and activities? Geology is all around us and can be used as a practical, real-world way of explaining principles in all sciences—chemistry, physics, biology, even math! Would you like to help your students find out more about the exciting career opportunities available in the geosciences? If so, this workshop is for you!
The first Geoscience Career Ambassador Training (GeoCAT) Workshop will be held June 21-25, 2022, at Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS. It will focus on familiarizing educators/youth volunteers with the diverse and exciting array of careers available in the geosciences through the wide range of industries that depend heavily on Earth resources and their effective management.
The aim of the GeoCAT program is to support particularly under-represented students find pathways into the geosciences, in order to build the strong geoscience workforce needed to tackle society’s most challenging problems, e.g. environmental issues, resource needs, climate change, etc. In preparation for the workshop, webinars will take place on the second Wednesday of the month, from February through March 2022. The webinar theme is "The Earth needs you! Discovering the role of geoscientists and their career pathways". The webinars will feature geoscientists who work in different fields, illustrating the types of jobs one can have with a degree in Geosciences. The GeoCAT workshop is supported by the National Science Foundation under Grant ICER-1911590 GP-IMPACT: GeoCAT Workshop: Geoscience Careers Ambassador Training Workshop, which will provide participant support to attend the workshop.
