Four Kansas 4-H Teens Accepted for International Exchanges in 2024
Submitted by Dr. Mary Kay Munson
States’ 4-H International Exchange Programs (States’ 4-H) has approved four Kansas 4-H’ers for exchanges in Japan and Norway. Tanis Normile, Franklin County, Frontier District, will represent Kansas 4-H on an 8-week exchange with the Labo Exchange Foundation in Japan, June 16-August 15. The first half of Tanis’ exchange will be Japanese language and culture study in Tokyo, hosted by a local Labo family. Then she will spend four weeks in a home stay with another host family somewhere else in Japan.
Eliza Brockhoff, Leavenworth County; Channing Dillinger, Stevens County, Wild West District; and Luke Walker, Saline County, Central Kansas District; will be traveling to Norway June 2-July 20. After a brief Welcome Program in Oslo, each of them will travel to a Norway 4H family somewhere in Norway for a homestay. While in their host country, they will learn about Norwegian culture and the 4H program there.
A first Orientation to the exchanges was held during Kansas Interviews in November, and a second Orientation was February 24-25, 2024. In March they will begin zoom orientations conducted by States’ 4-H, all intended to prepare these delegates for their exchanges. Upon return to Kansas, they will be sharing their experiences and learning with 4-H and other groups in their local areas and Kansas.
