Online SuperTracker Experience
Participants work as team to plan meals using the Food Tracker feature on SuperTracker. (Format used at 2016 State Senior Contest at 4-H Discovery Days)
Pros - Immediate feedback; youth can see how information could directly apply to them; youth get to see nutrition information on their food choices (not predetermined choices)
Cons - Participants need to print out information for scoring purposes; requires internet and equipment
How to implement:
- Acquire laptops or tablets/iPads with internet access. (Printing capability is desired but not necessary)
- Print various scenario cards for teams (various options exist depending on how much time you have available for contest). Print copies of the contest instruction sheet - color printouts preferred.
- Teams will start at supertracker.usda.gov. The contest instruction sheet provides an overview of how to create a profile using data from the scenario card.
- Teams will brainstorm various food choices to meet daily targets and enter food choices into Food Tracker. Distribute challenge options (if applicable).
- Upon completion, youth will print or e-mail choices to contest host.
- Utilize the SuperTracker Rubric (PDF) (Excel) to score and return to youth.
