January Ideal Time to Apply for Academic Year Program Hosting
Submitted by Dr. Mary Kay Munson
Applications should be arriving in the next month from Japan and South Korea for students hoping to spend the next school year in the U.S. with 4-H families. States’ 4-H International Exchange Programs offers prospective host families for Academic Year Programs (AYP) the chance to review the applications and look for the best matches for their families on a first come basis. Families are encouraged to complete the approval process early, so they have the widest possible selection.
Programs are from around August 1 to mid-June. AYP Exchange students attend local high schools and participate fully in academic, extracurricular, and 4-H activities for the year while hosted by one family, who provides meals, lodging, and transportation. They share cultures with their student. For more information, contact Jennifer Pfortmiller, Kansas AYP Coordinator, at jdunn@ksu.edu.
