Welcome New Youth Livestock Coordinator, Lexie Hayes!
Lexie Hayes joined the K-State Research and Extension Team on June 7th as the Extension Assistant, Youth Livestock Coordinator. She is a SE Kansas native who was a 12 year Greenwood County 4-H’er. Lexie was active in the horse, beef, sheep, and swine projects, as well as the leadership and foods projects. Lexie received her BS from Kansas State University and MS from Texas A&M University. During her time at K-State, Lexie was a student worker for the Department of Animal Science and Industry and Kansas FFA. She also served as an Extension Intern in Scott County. She has served as the Extension Educator, 4-H Youth Development, in Comanche County, Lawton, Oklahoma since 2009. Her primary responsibilities included assessing the needs of the urban, rural, and military youth in her community, developing educational programs to address those needs, and evaluating those programs.
Lexie has won several awards for her educational programs. She has also been involved with a variety of livestock shows, from the county fair to nationally renowned events, like the Tulsa State Fair Jr. Market Steer Show. She has been an active member of the Oklahoma 4-H Horse Council, which is the advisory group who manages the state-wide educational youth events and the state 4-H horse show, and the SW District 4-H Horse Council. Lexie is excited to be returning to Kansas and looks forward to working with the county extension personnel and families across the state.
