Academic Year Program Exchanges Update

Submitted by Mary Kay Munson

Recently the U.S. Department of State announced that FLEX and Yes in person exchanges have been canceled for the spring semester due to the pandemic’s resurgence. The exchangees scheduled to come to the U.S. were urged to continue participation in the Virtual Host Family Exchange initiated in October. Four Kansas 4-H’ers and their families were hosts for the fall semester and are urged to continue the relationship January-June. The following Kansas 4-H’ers enrolled as virtual host peers with their families, their counties, and the student their host are:

· Levi Meiwes, Allen Co., Southwind Dist. hosting Maksym Oleksandrovy from Ukraine

· Maddie Anderson, Johnson Co. hosting Andien Putri from Indonesia

· Laura Koch, Chase Co., Flint Hills Dist. hosting Lum Yea Akona from Bangladesh

· Desiree Ingalsbe, Butler Co. hosting Hoorain Kishwar from Pakistan

Kansas has Seorin Ryu from South Korea hosted in Ness Co., Walnut Creek Dist. for the full year, and is anticipating the arrival of Ayane from Japan December 22 to be hosted in Shawnee County for second semester. We expect to have all the AYP exchanges available for in person arrivals in August for 2021-2022 school year stays. Applications can be made now. Contact Mary Kay Munson for information.
