Partnership with the Department of Kinesiology: Youth Activity Profile Survey

Submitted by Sarah E. Maass (on behalf of Drs. Peter Stoepker and Denver Brown)

Below is a message from Drs. Peter Stoepker and Denver Brown about a survey that will be sent out to our 4-H members whose parents have consented for their children to participate in surveys/evaluations.  A message will be sent out in the Kansas 4-H Youth Development Channel letting you know when the email has gone out via 4-H Online to the parents of the 4-H members, encouraging them to participate.  Thank you in advance for helping promote this to your 4-H families in your local Extension unit.

Hello,

My name is Dr. Peter Stoepker, and I am reaching out along with Dr. Denver Brown to request your assistance in inviting 4-H members (4th-12th grade or ages 7 and up) to participate in a study on youth physical activity levels in Kansas. We are both faculty members in the Department of Kinesiology at Kansas State University, specializing in child and youth physical activity research.

As part of our study, we are asking 4-H members to complete a brief, validated survey called the Youth Activity Profile. This survey consists of 15 simple questions designed to assess physical activity and sedentary behavior and takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. Beyond overall activity levels, this survey provides insight into when children and youth are (or are not) active throughout the day – including before school, during school, in the evening, and on weekends.

By participating, youth (and their parents) will help us better understand physical activity trends among young people across Kansas and contribute to research that may inform future health and activity programs. Additionally, we plan to share our findings with 4-H to help guide and enhance their programming to better support youth physical activity and well-being.

We would love your help in sharing this opportunity with 4-H members in your area. If you have any questions or would like more details, please don’t hesitate to reach out:
