Where Has The Summer Gone?

Submitted by Sarah Maass

I have no idea about anyone else, but the summer seems to have flown by.  Manhattan is buzzing with students moving in and the traffic is quite the challenge (thank you, orange cone season).  While this is the season of school starting, it is the 4-H season of wrapping up and focusing on the Kansas State Fair, the record-keeping and award applications, and the preparation of the new program year.

The final puzzle piece of the 4-H project is not the county or state fair, but it is the record-keeping and reflection of what was learned throughout the year.  While I know this is not the most favorite part of the process, it is an important one.  With the investment in Z-Suites, the record-keeping process is made easier.   The year-end awards are part of this record-keeping process, which may be the true motivating factor.

While our 4-H members are working on their record-keeping and award applications, we too are working on records or end-of-year reporting in PEARS.  One of those items you have to complete is the professional development plan.  I want to make sure you are aware of a couple of Positive Youth Development (PYD) Academy virtual learning opportunities that are available to you this fall.  These courses are designed to deepen your understanding of positive youth development. Each course has two phases:

  • Phase 1: 20-30 hours of virtual learning over ten weeks, providing essential knowledge and best practices to apply PYD principles in your work.
  • Phase 2: Maximize your learning with optional Learning Circles for four additional months, where you can collaborate and receive support in applying what you've learned.
